YO ME LLAMO CUMBIA
Thank
You
I want to acknowledge all of the people who have made this book project possible. As we say in Colombia, una golodrina no hace verano. The phrase translates to one swallow doesn't bring summer, and it means one person cannot bring about change. To all of you, thank you for helping me, being my motivation, giving words of support to keep me going, and lifting me up as I name myself artist and writer. This book is for you.

to Dr. Degand, Cristavel, Andre, Camila, Carrisah, Andrea, and David
A special thank you to Dr. Darnel Degand for giving us this opportunity to make art in your EDU 247 course, and for uplifting me by actually reading my work and being interested in a way no other professor has. This means so much to mean. Cristavel, thank you for your words of kindness, and for inspiring me to make this book. To Camila, I know we only meet once, but I felt connected to you when I saw your beautiful drawings. Knowing you would see my book made me push myself to do a good job with the images and make sure the women were represented as best I could. Andre, thank you for introducing me to Lido Pimienta and for all of our conversations. You are an amazing artist and inspire us all! To Carrisah, Andrea, and David, thank you for all of your support, kind words, and feedback. You are all amazing, and I feel so honored to be in this class with you.
to my mom, sister, husband, and the Children's Literature Course at the UPTC
Mom, thank you for being the person I go to to share all of my ideas, sketches, and drawings. I love you so much, and this book is thanks to your desire to see Marcela and I learn your culture, our culture. Gracias mami! Marce, thank you for being that voice of support and surprise at everything I do. Who would I be without you, my best friend? Tadeh, you are my rock. Thank you for going to the store with me to buy paper and paints, and for being the first set of eyes to see my work. Finally, I want to thank the Children's Literature Course in the School of Languages at the UPTC. Thank you for your feedback, for listening to me, and keeping me in check. You are breaking barriers and making this world a better place for the future. This book is also for you, and I hope to read yours soon!

A Special Thanks to Benjamin Alvarado Gutiérrez
Thank you Benji for guiding me on the project. I learned about Ana Matilde Alvarado Sajonero from the Afro Films webpage you sent me, as well as Petrona Martinez. I also want to thank you and your family for your kindness. You are an amazing artist, musician, and human being.
